Pedro Pina | ppina at ist.utl.pt ResearcherID | Google Scholar
Pedro Pina is the coordinator of the research group on Planetary Sciences @CERENA. He received the PhD degree from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) with a thesis on mathematical morphology for characterization, modelling and simulation of natural resources. He published more than 200 papers in scientific journals, chapters of books and proceedings of international conferences and supervises currently several post-graduate students. His current research interests are related to the use of image analysis, pattern recognition and mathematical morphology for the identifiaction and characterization of planetary surface features. His papers and citations can be consulted at ISI ResearcherID and Google Scholar Citations (direct link above).
Lourenço Bandeira | lpcbandeira at ist.utl.pt | homepage ResearcherID | Google Scholar
Lourenço Bandeira graduated in Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2003, completed his MSc in the applications of visual control to robotics and the PhD in 2011, regarding the development of automated methodologies for pattern recognition on images of planetary surfaces.Currently he his developing a post-doc on the use of automated methods for large scale mapping of planetary features. His papers and citations can be consulted at ISI ResearcherID and Google Scholar Citations (direct link above).
Maura Lousada | maura.lousada at ist.utl.pt
Maura Lousada graduated in Biophysics Engineering (Planning and Environmental Management) from Universidade de Évora in 2007. She is currently managing and integrating data in the frame of ANAPOLIS project (Analysis of polygonal terrains on Mars based on Earth analogues) with GIS and remote sensing tools. In the same field of expertise, she is participating also in studies related to the identification and characterization of landslides on Madeira Island from VHR remotely sensed images.
Nuno Benavente | nuno.benavente at ist.utl.pt Researcher ID | Google Scholar
Nuno Benavente has a degree in Mining Engineering and Georresources (2000) and a MSc in Georresources (2006), both concluded at Instituto Superior Técnico. He is a researcher in the field of Image Analysis, currently testing and developing algorithms for the automated annotation of images with Martian structures.
Marlene Machado | marlene.machado at ist.utl.pt
Marlene Machado has an MSc on Biomedical Engineering concluded in 2012 at FEUP in the University of Porto. More recently she started working on planetary images, developing currently their acitvities on the automated detection of impact craters of smaller dimensions in large regions of Mars.
Collaborators
David Vaz | vaz.david at gmail.com
David Vaz graduated in Geology and completed his PhD on Mars paleotectonics characterization using image analysis and pattern recogniton methods. Both degrees were obtained at the University of Coimbra. He is a member of Centre of Geophysics from the University of Coimbra, and is currently developing his post-doc in collaboration with our team at CERENA/IST, evaluating the correlation between magnetic anomalies and the geology of Mars.
Thiago Statella | t.statella at gmail.com
Thiago Statella is a Cartographic Engineer that developed and concluded in 2012 his PhD at UNESP (Presidente Prudente, Brazil) in colaboration with CERENA/IST,on the development of automated approaches for the identification and characterization of dust devil tracks on very high resolution images from the surface of planet Mars. Currently, he is Professor at IFMG in Cuiabá, Brazil, and continues collaborating with IST on improving the previous approaches to expand our knowledge on these aeolian related surface patterns.
